The Sourdough Club Monthly Competition

At the Sourdough school, we have some incredible relationships with small businesses that share the same ethics that we do. You’ll find products from these businesses are used daily.

We thought it would be lovely to share and give away some of the things that we use all the time with our members.

EXCLUSIVE TO MEMBERS

As a benefit of being a Sourdough Club member, you’ll be able to enter our monthly competitions to win a prize from a carefully selected partner. If you are not yet a member? Sign up to become a Sourdough Club member where you can learn to bake sourdough from wherever you are in the world.

Challenger Bread Pan Sourdough

This month we have partnered with Challenger Breadware.

THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED

OUR PARTNER FOR MAY: CHALLENGER BREADWARE

We’d love to introduce you to Challenger Breadware, founded by Jim Challenger who began baking in 2016, and, as bakers do, became obsessed with baking the perfect loaf. What started out as an expression of love—making healthy food for his family—grew into a commitment to learning the craft of baking bread. Challenger Breadware grew out of Jim’s daily baking practice, and his personal goal to help more people bake better and eat more healthfully, one delicious loaf at a time.

If you have had the pleasure of visiting the school in person or hope to soon, then you’ll probably have seen one of Challenger Breadware’s beautiful Bread Pans in the kitchen.

We are absolutely delighted to be able to give our club members the opportunity to bake some of the recipes and formulas on The Sourdough Club using one of these Challenger Bread Pans.

THE PRIZE

We’ve partnered with Challenger Breadware to giveaway 1 x Challenger Bread Pan worth $295

The Challenger Bread Pan is a unique cast iron bread pan specifically designed to create the ideal baking environment for all your loaves, even in a conventional home oven. The dimensions of this pan allow you to bake a wide range of loaves – bâtards, boules and baguettes – all fit very comfortably. Easy to load, the pan helps to keep a constant temperature and traps steam around the dough as it bakes.

We’ll pick our favourite loaf (see how to enter below), to receive the Challenger Bread Pan.

This competition is open worldwide.

HOW TO ENTER

YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF THE SOURDOUGH CLUB TO ENTER THIS COMPETITION.

Not sure if you’re a member? Find out more here.

Each month we are asking our Sourdough Club members to bake a loaf and share a photo of it with us, we’ll pick our favourite loaf to win our prize from that month’s partner.

There are two ways you can enter:

  • Share a photo of your sourdough loaf on Instagram and ensure to tag @sourdoughclub, #sourdoughclub and #sourdoughclubgiveaway – you must use all these tags so we can find your entries!

OR

  • Upload a photo of your sourdough loaf below.

COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

You must be a member of The Sourdough Club to qualify for this prize.

You may enter as many times as you wish every month. We’ll only consider entries made between the first and last day of each month to win the prize we’ve selected from one of our partners.

Whilst we want to offer our prizes globally, some of our partners may be limited to the countries they are able to post to through the UK delivery system. We’ll inform you of this each time we announce our partner of the month. This particular competition is open worldwide.

This competition closes at midnight on the last day of the month – May 31st 2020.

Entrants must be aged 18 or over.

This competition is no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Instagram.

By entering our competition on Instagram, you give complete release of Instagram responsibility.

The winner will be contacted via Instagram or email and we will need to gather your details before passing these onto our partner of that month.

Full terms can be found on thesourdoughclub.com/terms/competitions-prize-draw-terms-and-conditions/.

WHY USE THE RETARDED METHOD?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ferment for longer. The longer the bread is fermented the better, so using the retarded method is best for optimal nutrition and digestibility. The retarded method involves an overnight prove in the fridge – this slows down the yeast and gives the bread the amazing sour and lightly vinegary flavours that are iconic to sourdough bread. Did you know, it is the sourness that contributes to its digestibility? For those who have wheat sensitivity or digestive issues, this method allows for higher levels of acidity and therefore is more digestible. Plus, this method allows for more flexible timings. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It's #IBSAwarenessMonth and all month we are talking about IBS! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

TIBETAN MONASTERY BREAD – BALEP KORKUN

Today’s member recipe explores the science and the deliciousness around adding a well known spice to sourdough ... I’ve included the studies that have shown improvement of both the symptoms of IBS and depression.

Easy to make, served warm. Drizzled in honey and oh so aromatic it’s easy to see why there is joy in sharing this bread.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So many people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) report that they can eat sourdough without digestive discomfort, even when they have difficulty digesting other types of bread. There is evidence that sourdough’s long, slow fermentation reduces IBS symptoms. But what if you could improve both flavour and the digestibility of your bread by adding a spice?

And, better yet, what if that could change that way you feel – not just physically, but emotionally, too? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
