THE LOAF THAT EMBODIES FRENCH VALUES
– Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité
As a was a young girl learning to bake in a small French village, I’d help out in the bakery by stacking the wood, brushing off the wood fired oven, carrying hot bread through to the bakery and stacking them on slatted shelves. I was called la Petite Anglaise, or Vava, which was short for “go go”. I was always full of energy. I would love to to watch, as the young, the old, the rich and the poor of the village would stand together in line to buy their bread. You see, bread is a great leveller.
