A prescription membership is prescribed to patients by doctors and healthcare professionals who have graduated from The Sourdough School. We fund, as part of our social enterprise, a systems change programme that allows us to use our resources to support change and education to those who need it, and our graduates are best placed to invite patients to join the club when they feel that this will benefit them.
The Prescription Membership approach emphasises the importance of baking as a tool for achieving better health and encourages members to take an active role in their own well-being. By offering resources, knowledge, and support, The Sourdough Club aims to empower members to make lasting, positive changes in their lives through the power of baking and lifestyle medicine. Where available, patients will also be given baking tins and flour as well as access to medical support.
The Social Prescription is underpinned by Baking As Lifestyle Medicine (BALM), the protocol on which the Sourdough School was founded. It focuses on improving gut health, mental well-being, and overall health by adopting specific dietary and lifestyle changes.

Who are Greenview Surgery?
Greenview Surgery is a Northampton-based GP surgery taking part in our Social Prescription programme. Dr Crawford and Dr Copley, both GPs at Greenview, are BALM licensed prescribers and graduates of The Sourdough School’s Clinical Diploma which allows them to prescribe our discounted social prescription.
By taking part in our Social Prescription programme, Greenview Surgery positions itself at the heart of its local community, providing support beyond the Surgery itself.
They are also involved in setting up pizza-making sessions for 16-21-year-olds at Radlands Plaza Skate Park in Northampton. Dates and more information will be released in late October 2023.
